12/6/09 - My apologies for taking almost four months to update the website. But I have come with great news this time. We now have the guidelines laid out for getting your 37" HDTV.
Sign up - Ask a bartender or go to the host stand and ask about starting the Grande Tour. For a $25 fee you will receive a Cove T-Shirt and get setup with your own personal beer menu that we will use to track your progress.
How we track your progress - There will be a comment box at the host stand. As you leave, just drop your itemized receipt in the box. But be sure to write your Tracking Code on the receipt. Your tracking code will be the first letter of your last name, followed by the last 4 digits of your phone number. For example, John Doe at 123-4567 would be listed as D4567.
NOTE - We do not release any of our guest's personal information. We will only use your contact information to inform you on your completion of the tour. The beer menu that we assign you when you register is the menu you'll be required to complete. New or discontinued items will not apply to your tour of the world.
8/22/09 - We would like to thank all of you for making The Cove the success it has become. All of our regulars and new comers have spread word of our establishment and made us a hit in Baton Rouge. Since opening, we have increased our beer selection to an unheard of 424 beers and still growing! Our city is slowly becoming more educated with what the world has to offer us in beer. We don't plan to stop so keep spreading word and bring everyone you know! If you think you know beer, come test your knowledge and expand your mind.
8/22/09 - We are proud of our products. There is so much to choose from and there is always the question of which one to choose. We have been working, over the past several months, a guide to our massive selection. In just a couple weeks, we will have the books to use as your tool to finding your dream beer or scotch. We will have a beer book, liquor book, and glassware guide that will bridge the gap. They are in the print press as we speak. You can even buy one to bring home with you so you can study at home!
To all bar and restaurant staff in the Baton Rouge area, we will be sending a representative of Port Royal to your establishments and provide our books and guides free of charge. If anyone would like to take one home with them, they can be purchased at the Cove.
Hopefully this will be done no later than October 2009. The printer had the flu and we got backed up trying to get 25 new beers to get the total up to 425. We think ran out of space for the time being. We are going still trying to make our 500 beer goal. Do to comments received, we are trying to get more microbrews. We are up to around 50 microbrews.
8/22/09 - If you thought the Port of Call Grande Tour was hard before at the Port, you are going to love doing it here! The new map and list are coming off the press so you can plan the rest of your year around the tour. A new prize will be given to the ones that finish. It will be a 37" HDTV! It is still in the works so keep checking the website for details and when we will start.
We are also bringing back the famous clothing line that made us famous at the Port. Customized to fit, you will be able to let everyone know that you have had a taste of the best beer Baton Rouge has to offer! Even cozies so your beer can advertise for us too! It's a win-win situation!
10/4/09 - We are going to implement taste flights soon and will start advertising the prize for the Grande Tour. It turned out to be more difficult to get more microbrews to satisfy the requests of our customers. We apologize the delay for implementing the new concepts and will hopefully have this finalized soon.
6/26/09 - The Cove is ready! Starting from Monday thru Saturday, there will be a casual opening for friend and family. Anyone is welcome though, of course. We were going to wait for more inventory to show up before we open but we can't wait to let everyone see our new baby!
Here is what you can expect to see at the new place: Coffee bar with ice cream and energy drinks, non-smoking room, a 65 foot bar, over 4,000 square foot, Scotches dating back to 1954, more beer than Baton Rouge has ever seen in one place. And to think all this started with a small 800 square foot bar! If we outgrow this, we will just put a roller coaster in it with a hotel to crash at.
6/13/09 - Welcome to the newly designed website! Red and black is the new theme. Actually not much has changed. But you can now see the beer lists for both bars now. Just click on the Beer List link like you are use to and select your bar of choice. I only listed what has been delivered so far. More are scheduled to arrive by the time we open. And I'm afraid to say the opening date has been pushed back to around the middle to end of July.
6/13/09 - Your wish is my command. Since so many people have asked for the old pictures back, I have put them back on there with a few new ones.
5/31/09 - Sorry for the delay but the opening date has been pushed back to the beginning of July. I've been working at the new place and haven't had a chance to put it on here. But you will be happy to know there are new pictures and a new total of 500 beers and 80 wines are going to be at The Cove! There will be a new menu and list on the website so you can plan your visit ahead of time. Now I'm going to be focusing on the website and menus since I finished my work at the bar. So start keeping track of the website again for more info.
5/2/2009 - As you can see we haven't stopped adding beers even while we are building a new bar. There is going to be more new beer when we open the Cove than originally planned too. Which is now going to be closer to 400 instead of 350! And I've heard that a lot of people have requested more pictures of the bar. Your wish is my command so I added a whole bunch more! I fixed up the photo page to have thumbnails now too!
4/22/2009 - The rumors are true. There will be another addition to the chain of Port Royal bars! Bringing the total up to two! We were getting so many new beers, we had expand to a whole new bar! How does over 4,000 square feet sound? Not good enough?! How about the longest bar in town? Over sixty feet of bar to sit at! Who likes gangster booths? We got those. And I almost forgot, we will have 350 beers and 250 Scotches. We are going to be drawing a new line for the bar scene in Baton Rouge!
I know you are so excited you want to jump up and come right over. But hold back your urges because it is not done yet. Construction is in progress and our goal for opening is for June 1st. Port Royal will stay in operation even after The Cove opens. The new location will be the old Jazzercise in the shopping mall at Citiplace next to Albasha's. Keep checking our website for updates. And if you want to see how things are looking at the new place, click on the link to the right.
2/19/2009 - And by a lot too! We have even more beers to satisfy your discriminating tastes. Help us keep this number growing by letting us know if you have had a beer we don't carry. And we will try our best to add it to the selection.
2/2/2009 - This beer once familiar to only locals is now being bottled in bombers and sold to the masses! And yes, we have it! Its reputation was known for kicking butt and leaving people clueless to why their vision started to malfunction after just two beers. Abita Brewing Co. has taken down the alcohol content a notch from the draught style we are use to which many people here agree that it has helped. And I mean helped prevent vision malfunction from occurring after just two beers!
Tom said you can make fun of him but we have had about 20 wines for a while we just have not put them on the website. The new Wine page will be coming soon. Our wine selection includes Old Vine Chardonnay and Malbec's. The selection is equal to others like Flemmings, Mansur's, and Jubans just to give you an idea until we get the new page up. Work in progress as always!
Wine and Scotch Tasting coming soon. Check Events page for date and details.
12/30/2008 - If you do, then you will like our selection which has been increased again. Bringing our total to a ridiculous amount of 176 Scotches! You will definitely like the variety if you like Speyside's. We have 74 just from that region. But we still have some from every region in Scotland.
If you like to try new drinks and you can get a ride home, then check out our new Mead! This is an extremely high alcohol content spirit, also known as "honeywine". The sweet and spiced spirit is something that is better shared than consumed by your lonesome.
There is a new events page to see what is going on at the Port. Unfortunately it is a work in progress but in the next few days, I will hopefully get the content and schedule to put on it. This way you don't have to worry about searching the entire bar for different color signs scattered about telling everyone about cookouts, games, movie night, and theme nights. Once it is completed, this new technology can bring you the news you once searched aimlessly for, in just one location!
PR Beers = 225
PR Liquors = 451
Cove Beer = 439
Cove Liquors = 676
Scotch and Bourbon flights coming soon. Ask your bartender for more information. Don't forget to ask how you can get a 37" HDTV by doing the Grande Tour!
For a LIMITED time only, you can purchase European beer glasses. Check with the bar staff for which ones are available and prices.
